This month, we're going to discuss the controversial topic of yoga. To us that live in the United States and in the westernized world, yoga is known as a stretching activity that improves strength and mobility. However, a simple google search will show that these physical postures, breathing techniques and mediation aren't just done to improve the connection between body and mind. It is actually much deeper than that.
Yoga is a SPIRITUAL practice that originates from ancient India. "Yoga" is actually a Sanskrit word that translates as "yoke" or "union/unite.”
Yoga Poses are used to worship and pay respects to deities in Hindu and yogic culture. There are more than 330 million deities, gods and the like in the Hindu religion. If you ever travel to these Hindu countries, you'll actually see people holding these positions as they worship their gods. As they engage in this practice, they center their minds or focus on the deity's energy and qualities that they are trying to obtain. As a result, a spiritual exchange happens where these deities transfer their energies unto the host, and they are then able to "receive" the qualities of the deity they are worshipping. Many yoga rituals consist of usage of the "Eight limbs,” by opening up different chakras until you "reach enlightenment” In other words, when you engage in the practice of yoga you are opening yourself up to these demonic spirits and yoking yourself to them.
Every single pose and breathwork is a form of worship for a different deity. The names of each yoga pose is the name of the deity they are trying to invoke.
In Exodus 20:3, God commands: "You shall have no other gods before me.”
Practicing yoga is a form of idolatry.
The good news is that the Lord is merciful. Because of what Jesus Christ did on the cross, if we have participated in these activities, we can repent and yoke ourselves back unto Jesus Christ and receive the Holy Spirit. In Matthew 11:30, Jesus told us: "For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” The more time we spend in His word; praying, worshipping and doing His will, the more we become like Him and receive His qualities, or the Fruits of Spirit. 1 Corinthians 10:21 says: "You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; you cannot partake of the Lord's table and of the table of demons". Yoga has grown in popularity over the years and is offered at nearly every local fitness center; you'll even see it all over television and social media. Keep in mind, stretching itself is not demonic. It can improve your flexibility, posture, and circulation while reducing muscle tension and risk of injury. Yoga, however, is not just stretching but just another way the enemy tries to deceive the children of God .There are many ways you can incorporate stretching in your
workout routine without going against the will of God.
Below are some great stretching fitness videos that do not incorporate yoga.
