In a universe buzzing with recalls, GMOs, and pesticides galore, it’s clear that a little prayer is not just a nice thought—it’s an absolute must! Prayer can influence how your body processes food and can even enhance its nutritional value. Learn more from our Healthy Lifestyle Chair, Jennica Lebrun. |

For the longest time, it seemed as if my body was intolerant to different foods. Whether I had a piece of cake or a salad, my body would react badly. Even when I was intentional about eating healthy, my body was not absorbing the nutrients the way It was supposed to. Most of my days consisted of a daily cycle of indigestion, abdominal discomfort and belching. After doing some research, I was able to find some supplements that helped to heal my gut (which I shared last month). However, God showed me that is wasn't just the supplements so I started making a habit of praying over my food. Even if the prayer was 15 seconds, He honored them and it made a big difference on how my body reacted to food and also my relationship with food.
A few months ago, I ordered through Instacart delivery and was lead to pray over the whole Instacart order. Do you know that same night, I had a dream about a bag of lettuce I purchased at Aldi and felt convicted to throw it away. As I was throwing it away I realized the bag of lettuce that was just purchased the day before already had white mold at the bottom of the bag.
Everything we do spiritually will have a result in the physical. In this month's newsletter I want to cover 3 quick prayer points to make over the food we eat.
GIVING THANKS
1 Corinthians 10:31 says "Whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all in the glory of God." Every good thing on this Earth was given to us by God. He created all of the fruits, the vegetables, the spices, and the meat we eat. He helps us make new recipes and inspires us with different flavor combinations for our food to be enjoyable. He provides us with the finances and way to obtain the food we eat. He is in every detail, from the moment the seed of a fruit is planted in the ground, to the moment it is ready for consumption. There are so many in the world who aren't able to eat everyday, but our Heavenly Father provides and we never lack any good thing. There is a verse in the Bible (Luke 16:10) that says he who can be trusted with little can be trusted which much. I believe when we show gratitude in the little things like the breakfast we eat everyday, God will trust us with even greater blessings. It is good to always give thanks to God for providing the food that we eat on a daily basis.

NOURISHMENT
It's one thing to eat the right foods or spend more for higher quality ingredients; it's another thing for your body to absorb the nutrients from that you are consuming. Malabsorption of nutrients can be from injury, inflammation, certain diseases or poor gut health. The dietary supplement industry is projected to reach a net worth of $128 billion dollars in 2028, as people become more mindful of nutrition. These nutrients and vitamins God has already given to us freely. As it is written in Genesis 1:29, "And God said, 'Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat." Getting all the vitamins and nutrients we need from our food will not only help us to save money and keep us healthy, but it will also help us stay full longer so we not overeat; which can lead to gluttony. We should ask God that the foods we consume will help to nourish our bodies and not harm them.

PLEADING THE BLOOD OF JESUS OVER YOUR FOOD
Unless you have your own garden or farm, you don't really know the process it took for the food to reach your plate. We have seen where the healthiest foods like strawberries or chicken have been recalled. It doesn't matter if you go to a farmers market or the produce aisle at Walmart; even organic farmers uses pesticides. When we eat at restaurant, we can't guarantee that all the proper sanitation guidelines were followed.
Matthew 26:48 says, "Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak." The enemy tries to enter our spiritual gates using what we call our 5 senses, which includes what we watch, who or what we listen to, what we do, our smell and even what we eat. Remember that the fall of man happened when Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit. Many diseases, foodborne illnesses and infections are a result of certain diets. The blood of Jesus Christ is the only thing potent enough to take away the sins of the world, so imagine what it can do over the food that we eat.
