The human body consists of over 39 trillion bacteria. Probiotics are known as the
"good bacteria" or live microorganisms that are consumed to improve the gastrointestinal flora (they live specifically in your gut). The gut flora is responsible for manufacturing our vitamins, protecting against pathogens, and breaking down complex carbs and dietary fibers. A lot of times we can be eating the right foods but if there is an imbalance in the gut flora, our bodies will not be able to absorb the nutrients. An unbalanced gut microflora can be caused by the increasing the intake of proteins or sugars, left over pesticides from not washing fruit and vegetables correctly, alcohol consumption, medications (i.e. antibiotics), poor dental hygiene, unprotected sex, stress, anxiety, and so much more.
